  • Your stats, right away

Your stats, right away: Do you hate delays? Do you think being told to “Please wait…” by websites, cash machines, call centers, and the doughnut stand drive-thru guy in the year 2010 is a sure sign modern living isn’t quite meeting our collective expectations as a planet?

Good news! Today, we will be rolling out a new, experimental interface for Google FeedBurner. The real story is what’s new under the hood, however: the new interface provides real time stats for clicks, views, and podcast downloads, which means you can start seeing what content is drawing traffic from feed readers, Twitter, and other syndicated sources as it happens.

Additionally, if you use the FeedBurner Socialize service, and your platform uses PubSubHubbub or you ping us when you post, you can for the first time get stats on how much traffic your feed items are receiving from Twitter, as well as feed reading platforms like Google Reader in one place. Again, all within seconds of posting your content. Ping? Pong! Yep. That fast.

Your subscriber and reach numbers are still calculated based on a whole day's worth of requests, and are based on the traffic you received yesterday and before; but your item stats reflect the traffic you are receiving right now.

You can access the new interface by visiting or logging into and then clicking on the "Try out the NEW (beta) version!" link at the top.

The best way to see these real time features is to publish a new post and then switch to the “Last two hours” view to begin seeing updates.

To access feed management or previous analytics functionality, you can continue using the original interface at

In the new interface, we are focusing on two things: our new real-time stats presentation and getting messages about and issues with your feed posted to the top-level dashboard, so that you can better diagnose any issues that may prevent your feed from being delivered in real time. If you have any comments or questions, look for the “Send Feedback” link at the top of the page to tell us what you think.

A new look for Custom Search results plus a new search box

A new look for Custom Search results plus a new search box: We’re excited to announce that starting today, we are providing a new results style that’s more modern and streamlined, based on the evolving Google design and experience across Google properties.
This look will be the new default for new custom search engines, and admins of existing custom search engines can also choose this new style by visiting the Look and feel page of their CSE’s control panel and selecting “Default” in the Choose or customize a style section. The old default remains an option, but has been renamed to “Classic”.

In addition to the new style for results, we’ve also updated the search box and made autocomplete more robust and consistent with the standard Google autocomplete. Note that this update affects all CSEs that use the Element so, in some rare cases, site owners who have made customizations to their CSE search box (or who have enabled autocomplete for their own search boxes) may need to make minor updates to accommodate the new search box’s slightly different look.

We hope you and your visitors enjoy these updates. Let us know what you think in our discussion forum.

A new way to access quality content online

A new way to access quality content online: Posted by Paul McDonald, Product Manager

Whether we’re getting the latest election news, making sense of the day’s stock market activity or looking for an update on our favorite celebrities, we rely on publishers to inform and entertain us. Online publishers often fund the creation of this content through ads; sometimes they ask you to pay for content directly, by buying a subscription or purchasing a particular article.

Now, you may see a new option: the ability to access some of this content by responding to microsurveys, without having to pull out your wallet or sign in. When a site has implemented this option, you’ll see a prompt that offers you a choice between answering a market research question or completing another action specified by the publisher (such as signing up for an account or purchasing access). All responses are completely anonymous -- they aren’t tied to your identity or later used to target ads. The prompts look like this:

Publishers get paid for hosting surveys. A number of publishers, such as the The Texas Tribune, the Star Tribune and Adweek have already started running these microsurveys on their sites.

So what’s the point of these questions? From international brands to local food trucks, every business owner wants to make important decisions with their customers’ feedback in mind. That’s why we’ve created Google Consumer Surveys, a new business-facing product that makes custom market research easy. It enables companies to ask questions (the ones you'll later see on your screen) and get back quantitative results quickly, accurately and cost-effectively. Companies have already been using it to research everything from online shopping behavior (Lucky Brand Jeans) to gluten-free baking mixes (King Arthur Flour), and to assess brand awareness (Timbuk2) and inform product development (479 Popcorn). Google shares the money these companies spend with our publisher partners.

The idea behind Google Consumer Surveys is to create a model that benefits everyone. You get to keep enjoying your favorite online content, publishers have an additional option for making money from that content, and businesses have a new way of finding out what their customers want.

If you’re a publisher interested in running microsurveys on your site, let us know.

Google Adsense Tips, Tricks, and Secrets

    Build an Empire?

When you’re deciding to become a website publisher you will fall into one of two broad categories:
Post image for Google Adsense Tips, Tricks, and Secrets
    • Publish 100 websites that each earn $1 a day profit
    • Publish 1 website that earns $100 a day profit
The reality of it is, most people end up somewhere in between. Having 100 websites leaves you with maintenance, management and content issues. Having one website leaves you open to all sort of fluctuations (search engines algorithm’s, market trends, etc). You can adapt your plan on the way, but you’ll have an easier time if you start out going in the direction of where you want to end up.

    General or Niche

You can build your website around general topics or niche ones. Generally speaking niche websites work better with adsense. First off the ad targeting is much better. Secondly as you have a narrow focus your writing naturally becomes more expert in nature. Hopefully this makes you more authority in your field.
If this is your first try at building an adsense website, make it about something you enjoy. It will make the process much easier and less painful to accomplish. You should however make sure that your topic has enough of an ad inventory and the payout is at a level you are comfortable with. You may love medieval folk dancing, but the pool of advertisers for that subject is very small (in fact it’s currently zero).
Once you’ve gotten the hang of how Adsense works on a website, you are going to want to dabble in some high paying keywords, you may even be tempted to buy a high paying keyword list. This does come with some dangers. First off the level of fraud is much higher on the big money terms. Secondly there is a distortion of the supply and demand relationship for these terms. Everyone wants ads on their website that make $35 or more a click, however the number of advertisers who are willing to pay that much is pretty limited. Additionally the competition for that traffic is going to be stiff. So, don’t try to run with the big dogs if you can’t keep up. If you have to ask if you’re a big dog, then chances are, you’re not. I have used a high dollar keywords report from and was pleased with my results (see cash keywords free offer recap).

    New Sites, Files and Maintenance

When you’re building a new site don’t put adsense on it until it’s finished. In fact I’d go even farther and say don’t put adsense on it until you have built inbound links and started getting traffic. If you put up a website with “lorem ipsum” dummy or placeholder text, your adsense ads will almost certainly be off topic. This is often true for new files on existing websites, especially if the topic is new or different. It may take days or weeks for google’s media bot to come back to your page and get the ads properly targeted. TIP: If you start getting lots of traffic from a variety of IP’s you will speed this process up dramatically.
I like to build my sites using include files. I put the header, footer and navigation in common files. It makes it much easier to maintain and manage. I also like to put my adsense code in include files. If I want/need to change my adsense code, it’s only one file I have to work with. TIP: I also use programming to turn the adsense on or off. I can change one global variable to true or false and my adsense ads will appear or disappear.

    Managing URL’s and channels

Adsense channels is one area where it’s really easy to go overboard with stats. You can set up URL channels to compare how one website is doing to another. You can also set up sub channels for each URL. If you wanted to you do something channels like this:
    • – 728 banner
    • – 336 block
    • – text link
    • – 728 banner
    • – image banner
    • – 336 block
    • – 300 block
While this is great for testing and knowing who clicks where and why, it makes your reporting a little wonky. Your total number will always be correct but when you look at your reports with a channel break down things will get displayed multiple times and not add up to correct total. Makes things pretty confusing, so decide if you really need/want that level of reporting detail. TIP: At the very least you want to know what URL is generating the income so be sure to enter distinct URL channels.

    Site Design and Integration

Once you know you are going to put adsense on your website you’re going to have to consider where to put it. If this is new site it’s easier, if it’s an existing site it’s more difficult. While there are some people who will be able to do it, in most cases I’d say if you just slap the adsense code in, you’ll end up with a frankensite monster (props to Tedster of WMW for the buzzword). While every website is different, Google has published some heat mapsshowing the optimal locations. No surprise that the best spots are middle of the page and left hand side. Now I’ve done really well by placing it on the right, but you should know why you’re doing it that way before hand, and be prepared to change it if it doesn’t work out.
Google has also has published a list of the highest performing ad sizes:
    • 336×280 large rectangle
    • 300×250 inline rectangle
    • 160×600 wide skyscraper
From the sites that I run, I do really well with the 336 rectangle and 160 skyscraper. My next best performing ad size is the 728 leaderboard, I don’t really use the 300 inline rectangle too often. So really it depends on how well you integrate these into your site. Placement can have a dramatic effect on performance. TIP: When working on a new site or new layout you may want to give each location it’s own channel for a little while until you understand the users behavior.
Another ‘trick’ that can increase your CTR is by blending your adsense into your body copy. For example if your body copy is black, remove the adsense border and make the title, text, and URL black.TIP: Try changing all of your page hyperlinks to a high contrast color (like dark red or a bold blue) then change the adsense title to the same color.

    1. Pinterest Tools and Guide

We all have been enjoyed Orkut, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus, now it’s time for Pinterest. It’s the fastest growing new social media site, comes with an amazing concept. It seems that Pinterest is going to be new big thing in the world of social media and networks. It’s basically a content sharing service that allow you to Pin images, videos and other objects to your dashboard [pinboard]. The best thing about Pinterest is, it allows you to create and manage theme based collection.
Its popularity rising day by day and thousands of new members are connecting with this service every week. As we know Facebook, Twitter is having the large social market share and there are lots of tools, and blogs on these markets. The future will be Pinterest, Google+ occupying the remaining share or even they may grow over than Twitter or Facebook.
So the Idea is, start a website or blog related to Pinterest, you can develop a tool that helps to grow Pinterest followers, get more re-pins, you can also create a website/ blog to share Marketing Tips and Advises for Pinterest etc. If you not have much knowledge about such fields then you can start a simple product information related website for Pinterest. Remember it’s a beginning of this new kind of social sharing site, so it’s the right time to get into Pinterest online business.

    2. Question & Answer Website on Trending Topics

Q&A Websites are always popular over internet, there are lots of such websites, some popular are, WikiHow, Yahoo Answers, eHow, Stackoverflow etc. Though this idea is not new but it’s an evergreen idea. New Software and services will keep coming on internet and if you have expertise on them don’t waste your time, go with this Idea. For example Windows 8 is a trending topic these days; if you have interest on Windows-based OS you can start a Q&A Website on Windows 8.
It doesn’t matter with what topics you are going but always try to choose trending topics to get huge audience base. Windows 8, Google Chrome, Google’s SEO, iPad 3, Nokia Lumia are some trending topics over internet.

     3. Android, iPhone and Tablet Apps

Android and iPhone are the two biggest App market for both developers and buyers. Specially the Android is becoming very huge and attracting thousands of new lovers every month. And it is expected to grow even wider in the upcoming years. Even now it’s late to get into this market, but there are still some gaps exists in the market and you could easily fill those gaps by starting a website to sell hand-held Apps. Instead of going with all type of apps target a particular audience base. I mean to say, Target particular age group nowadays teenagers and business persons could be your biggest audience base.
Do some research on existing App Stores and make a list of those App which are most downloaded by a particular age group of people. Remember nowadays people are crazy about Gaming Apps, Music related Apps, and Connectivity related Apps. So choose your desired App market and go on.

    4. Social Media Apps

If you take a look on Apps over facebook there are thousands of new apps coming every month and those apps not take too much time to get popularity. And there is no any big name in context of Facebook App yet, you could be the one.
You can start a new website dedicated to Facebook Apps, You can put there popular and new Facebook apps Information along with their rating, user reviews etc. There are lots of hackers group are targeting facebook users by using fake Apps, so that if you play genuinely with the business, it will not take much time to gain popularity and trust.

    5. Coupon Codes Website

Although there are some leaders in this segment but gaps still exist for small websites.  You can start a website dedicated to discount coupons for various fields such as Hosting & Domain Service Providers, Online Shopping, Restaurants, and Malls etc.
There are millions of people who search for Coupon Codes before purchasing every week and if you could apply little precious effort you may be the leader in this field. It would be better if you find out a market that doesn’t have a coupon site and you can easily fill that gap. You can join affiliate programs of various online stores to promote their business with sharing their discount coupons along with pouring your pockets with good commissions, also.

    6. Simple Utility Website to Solve Other’s Problems

If you are geek in any technology field such as Gaming, Software, Apps, Web Development, Online Marketing, Windows based OS, etc. Then instead of creating a Website to publish your expertise via articles start a direct Problem Solving Service. Internet users got lots of problem and looks for their solution online, and those types of people are in millions.
For example, you can start a website on Web Development, where you can take inputs directly from users and help them to solve their problem by serving your expertise. For another example if you expert in taxation, you can start an online service to help other’s tax related problems.

    7. Free Images for Commercial Use

If you are a crazy photographer or love to capture everything with your Camera or love to develop/draw digital images, this could be biggest market for you. Start a website to share those pictures and allow using commercially as well. Either you can sell them for onetime payment or if you even can provide them free and make huge money with advertising on your site.
There are lots of bloggers and webmasters search for images to use in their articles, and existing paid services providers are charging huge money and the website offering free images has not much variety. So that need of a new website is obvious.
There are lots of Ideas still existing, you just need to explore them, remember the very first step is to bring an idea for your business and in fact, the real work starts afterwards. I have seen who started with really excellent ideas but got failed just because of choosing wrong business strategies. Always keep focus you business on your particular field instead of trying to capture others.
